Position Overview
Woodland School, a Michigan Public School Academy, in Traverse City is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Middle School Math Teacher for Grades 6–8. This position focuses on building strong foundational math skills, Algebra readiness, and providing targeted math interventions to ensure students are well prepared for success in high school mathematics.
The ideal candidate is committed to supporting diverse learners, using data to drive instruction, and creating a positive and structured learning environment for middle school students.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality math instruction aligned with Michigan K–12 Mathematics Standards
- Teach core middle school math concepts, including pre-algebra and Algebra foundations
- Design and implement math intervention strategies for students needing additional academic support
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student progress
- Prepare students for a successful transition to high school math coursework
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Collaborate with colleagues, intervention staff, and school leadership
- Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate math endorsement (or ability to obtain)
- Experience teaching middle school math (Grades 6–8) preferred
- Knowledge of Algebra readiness standards and intervention practices
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to student growth and academic achievement
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with math interventions, MTSS, or small-group instruction
- Data-driven instructional experience
- Experience supporting students transitioning into high school
